Iris – a Rainbow Creation

Irises have been popular since ancient times, as descriptions of irises are often found in the frescoes of Ancient Egypt, Assyria, and Babylon. Back then, they represented the strength and unwavering power of the royal house and were intended to inspire reverence among the subjects. The meaning of the iris flower comes from its Greek name ἶrῐs (rainbow), which is associated with the ancient Greek goddess Iris. According to legend, as the patroness of the rainbow, Iris always descended on it to deliver messages from the gods to humans. Interestingly, the author of this name was none other than Hippocrates himself.
